HORS CIRCUITS | Movement Art International Dance Festival
The Movement Art International Dance Festival 17-24 October 2026.
The Movement Art International Dance Festival brings together international contemporary dance artists whose works explore memory, identity, resistance, and human connection. Rooted in the cross-border dialogue between Luxembourg and Trier, the festival creates space for exchange in a world increasingly shaped by division where bodies speak beyond language, borders, and fear. More than a performance festival, Movement Art is a gathering of perspectives, questions, and shared humanity.
DANCE | Bolero – Jarkko Mandelin (Finland)
Bolero is a duet in which a Bolero-named duet is practiced and prepared. Two dancers specialised in acrobatics and floor technique have become tools of the classical artist's genius, but inspiration is running low, and the choreography is not progressing. The pressure is high, and emotions are heating up as they struggle to create something final. The work atmosphere is tense, the humour is dark, and the dance is dangerous. The Bolero duet is built on the foundations of Kinetic Orchestra's partner technique and the performers' extensive skill set. It is a combination of black comedy and skilled, fast-paced dance, full of techniques from different acrobatic disciplines.
DANCE | HOW TO_ just another Boléro – Emanuele Rosa, Maria Focaraccio (Italy)
HOW TO_jus another Boléro is a short duet on the renowned one-movement orchestral piece Boléro by the French composer Maurice Ravel. This famous straightforward composition inspired the two authors and performers to create an everchanging-bodies-landscape within the limited and confined space of a carpet. Here, 18 ephemeral images merge into each other in a suspended tempo as if detached by the surrounding reality. The two performers, as domesticated animals in a zoo-cage and depending on one another, are observed and gazed from the outside. HOW TO_ just another Boléro aims to become a portrait of different attempts at re-learning how to behave, touch, cooperate, help, love... constantly shifting between dramatic and ironic tones.
DANCE | KINK – Nik Rajšek (Slovenia)
KINK is a solo about control: craving it, resisting it, losing it. It explores control on stage as both a driving force and a point of collapse. The body twists, retreats and asserts itself in a constant tension between dominance and surrender. Movement and music take turns leading, shaping each other in a shifting dialogue. Being watched becomes both threat and thrill, a response to the discomfort of exposure and the secret pleasure of wanting more. In KINK, Nik Rajšek invites the audience into a teasing power dynamic where control is questioned, shared and continually redefined.
